Em Cosmetics: Love it, or Leave it?

Hi lovely ladies! Em is the cosmetics creation from, the YouTube famous, Michelle Phan. Em is the reflection of Me…okay I have to admit, that is pretty clever. If you bought any of her line, you will know that the box has tens of words all starting with “Em”- Empower, Embrace, Emerge, Embody and a lot more. My review today will be based on the three eyeshadows and a blush I received in my Ipsy bag, so let’s get started!

The samples here are from The Life Palette called Career life, and it’s in the section Look 3 Out to Lunch, which consists of 36 shadoes for eye, cheek and lip. There are 4 curated looks for infinite possibilities. The three eyeshadows were absolutely gorgeous and highly pigmented, it has fall written all over it. The blush could be a bit better, but it is buildable. It’s pretty, but why are people disappointed in this line so much?

Oh boy, where do I even start. From the samples, I think I got the most pigmented ones in the bunch. From other reviews I’ve watched online, you get the luck of the draw with these shadows. Some of them are really great, while the others are chalky and have no color payoff. While with any line there are products that are good and bad but for the price of $75 (The Life palette), or $38 (shade play, artistic eyeshadow palette- smaller version with 6 shadows) it’s not worth it. Theres more bad than good. I’d rather buy the Urban Decay Vice 2 palette for $60, or even Wet n Wild products with the knowledge of how colorful and vivid the shadows are. I also have to say that if you live outside the U.S., their international shipping still isn’t available, sorry guys!

I don’t like writing bad reviews, but if there are definite reasons why I don’t like a brand or an eyeshadow I will gladly tell you girls about it. My personal opinion is that way too much money was spent on the box your items come in. It looks high end until you get your palette for example. It’s quite bulky, and the plastic looks a bit drugstore like ELF cosmetics. Not that I dislike ELF, but if you’re making a luxury brand, maybe cheap looking plastic turns me off a bit.

As for Michelle I have to say kudos to her for putting herself out there knowing people would be criticizing her makeup line. She started the fire in my life and really taught me about makeup. I used to look up to her so much, but recently there have been things that she’s done or said that make me disappointed in her. I won’t even go into the whole chin implant thing. Since her line is paired up with L’Oreal, I have a feeling she may have sold out for the money. I think people really had high expectations for her makeup, so when they finally got it and realized why they got for their money, a lot of hate and disappointment spread throughout YouTube and other beauty blogs. Granted, not everything in this line is bad. There are even things I would consider buying, but that consists of only 3-4 things. I’m glad I got a sample, but I won’t be buying anything soon until either the price changes, or the colors get more pigment and feel buttery, not chalky. I’m saying, Leave it. Have you tried anything in Michelle’s line? What do you like or dislike about it? Again this was my personal opinion, and I’m sure you will form your own! Let me know if there is anything else from her line you want a review on! Check it out for yourself at Emcosmetics.com.

Stay fabulous girls! <3
Caitlin xoxo
